We have no more valuable resource than our children, and someday we will live in the world they create. In an age of school closings, campus violence, sex trafficking, internet predators, cyberbullying, and civil conflict, it is crucial for school leaders to engage the community and implement robust education policies to ensure school safety. Parents trust us to keep their children secure, and we cannot fail in that regard.
Pearland ISD is consistently one of the highest rated in the state of Texas for academic achievement. Even though we have a strong history of excellence, we can still improve through community engagement and effective education policy. Dr. Kris believes the best way to take care of our students is to take care of our educators. Most of them are passionate about helping kids succeed, and they need our support, especially in ensuring school safety.
The School Board has the authority to tax your property and business, making it essential for the Board to be a good steward of the funds it receives. Every dollar of funding from federal, state, and private sources means a dollar that does not need to come from Pearland taxpayers. While we should strive for excellence in education policy, we must also focus on community engagement to ensure we deliver the best value to you, the citizens of Pearland. As a property and business owner in Pearland, Dr. Kris understands how taxes affect the people of Pearland and is committed to promoting school safety alongside fiscal responsibility.
Pearland ISD must prioritize community engagement across multiple fronts:
Students require a stimulating and challenging curriculum that caters to their unique gifts and abilities.
Parents should be seen as partners in this journey, helping to drive student success while also guiding the school district on critical education policy matters.
Educators need to remain engaged to be effective in their roles.
Furthermore, the Texas Education Agency must be informed about the needs of Pearland students, particularly regarding school safety.
To Build Pearland Proud, we must actively engage each of these groups.
Public education is the great equalizer in American history. In today's hyper-partisan environment, it feels like schools are caught in the crossfire. Our education policy must respect the primacy of parents as the main educators of children, not circumvent parents' wishes or betray their trust. Community engagement is essential in this process. Children should likewise learn to respect each other, respect their educators, and respect the community that has given them so much already, all while ensuring school safety.
